Friends, thank you for taking the time to read a little about the journey I took in becoming a health coach. If you don’t want the fluff, skip down to the underlined paragraph and begin there.
Let me start with a simple introduction: I’m 29 and currently live in a cozy simple beach town (Leucadia) in Sunny San Diego. I was born and raised in the upper left corner of the states, WA. On the contrary to what Miranda believes, San Diego is the most beautiful place to live!
Health and fitness was rooted in me ever since I was a little girl. I was fortunate to be raised by parents that kept me active in sports and sustained me nutritionally with whole foods. Although I grew up in a house that modeled health, it wasn’t until I moved out on my own that I had to learn how to replicate the health behaviors and turn it into a lifestyle.
My interest in health and fitness multiplied when I transferred to Western Washington University to continue playing Division II Soccer. I can’t deny at 18 years old my sole purpose of going to college was to continue playing soccer; but by the time I was 21, I had found a career path that was just right for me.
I graduated Western with a BS in Kinesiology in the Summer of 2016 and within a month after graduation, I moved to SD to attend Point Loma Nazarene University. I completed my MS in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science. The focus of my graduate studies was to understand how exercise can simply reverse or improve the life of someone battling chronic disease.
This is where my life changed.. when it hit me like a ton of bricks that my everyday lifestyle choices have the ability to turn on or turn off a gene that can hinder or improve my health. I am the one in control of my health, I am the one in control of finding harmony…
Harmony looks different for everybody. There should be no comparison when it comes to one’s journey to another. However, there are simple steps to take in order to build the lifestyle that serves you!
Set Your Intentions
FOCUS ON ADDING WHOLE FOODS VS. CUTTING FOODS FROM YOUR DIET
Track calories – focus on high protein– think 80% whole foods & 20% fun foods
Think simple: calories in vs. calories out
FOCUS ON A REALISTIC TRAINING PROGRAM
It’s ok to start slow – focus on quality over quantity – build consistency first
Strength training > HITT & Cardio
Walking is underrated
BE REALISTIC WITH THE TIME YOU HAVE EACH WEEK TO EXECUTE THE PLAN
Not everyone has the same 24 hrs in a day - the plan ebb’s & flow’s with the business of your life
Try & Fail
ACCEPT THAT MOMENTS OF FAILURE WILL HAPPEN
Life will get in the way at times – motivation will come & go
Growth & personal development is most successful after a failed or trying time
MINDSET & RESILIANCE
Break the all or nothing mentality - positive self-talk is a requirement - celebrate the small wins
Don’t be afraid to try again - each next attempt will be 1% better than the time before
Build Harmony
FEEL WORTHY OF BEING HEALTHY
· Accept that health & fitness is an investment (time, energy, money)
· Accept that health & fitness is not a short term state to achieve, rather a lifestyle change
HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE
It’s ok to have a coach hold you accountable at times - it’s a must to trust yourself & take the tools and methods your coach taught you to practice them on your own
PRACTICE MANY VERSIONS OF SELF-CARE
fitness & nutrition isn’t EVERYTHING in life - self-care can be done daily or weekly - a self-care routine can take 3 minutes to achieve or 2 hours to achieve (time doesn’t matter)
The last thing to remember is… there is no end-date or deadline to this journey. Don’t begin this journey thinking your life will change in 3, 6, even 9 months. The best transformations happen after years and years of practice.
I’m here to guide you through this journey until you’re able to do it on your own. As a coach I will be patient, yet forward. My end goal is to help clients grow both mentally and physically.
